Which extra features actually help an online store?
Contents
A shop can sell with a catalogue, a cart and a checkout. Extra features help when they remove friction or bring people back. Below are the ones we see working in real stores - not every gadget the plugin directory offers.
Newsletter
A list you own is still one of the cheapest ways to announce a restock or a seasonal drop. Collect emails with a clear reason, send regularly, and write something people open. A dead list is worse than no list.
Payment integration
Checkout should offer the methods your customers already use - cards, BLIK, transfers, sometimes buy-now-pay-later. One reliable gateway beats three half-working ones. Test the full path on a phone before you launch.
Courier integration
Printing labels from the order screen, booking pickups and sending tracking numbers saves hours. Brokers such as Apaczka or Furgonetka cover this for WooCommerce. Pick one and keep the flow inside the shop, not in a spreadsheet.
Reviews and ratings
Reviews reduce doubt on a product page. Ask after delivery, show the score near the price, and moderate fake ones. A handful of real reviews beats a wall of five-star placeholders.
Recommendation system
Related products and “bought together” blocks raise average order value when the suggestions make sense. Bad recommendations look like ads. Start simple: same category, same brand, or a manual set for bestsellers.
Abandoned carts
Most carts never become orders. A single reminder email, sent after a few hours, recovers a part of them. Do not spam. One or two messages with the cart contents and a clear checkout link is enough.
Loyalty program
Points, a discount after N orders, or early access for returning customers. It works when the rule is easy to understand. Complicated tiers that nobody can explain at support will sit unused.
A search that finds products
If the catalogue is larger than a few dozen items, search matters more than the menu. Typo tolerance, filters and a result that shows price and stock will do more for conversion than another homepage slider.
FAQ
Shipping time, returns, size charts - the questions support already answers. Put them on the product and checkout path. It cuts tickets and keeps people from leaving at the last step.
Chat
Chat helps during working hours when someone is stuck on size or shipping. A widget that nobody answers is worse than a form. If you cannot staff it, skip it or use a short FAQ plus email.
Automatic invoices
Invoices generated from the order, sent to the customer and ready for accounting. In Poland this is often a legal and operational must. Do it in the shop, not by hand after every sale.
Add features when they solve a real bottleneck. A fast checkout and reliable delivery still beat a shop full of extras that nobody asked for.
